On today’s #askthemilitaryrecruitingexpertmonday I review a few tips about employer obligations under #USERRA (Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act) and provide you some resources to prevent a USERRA complaint being filed against you.

Example situation: if you recently hired a National Guardsman and three months after the hire she tells you her unit is deploying in three months for a year - should the Guardsman have told you about this deployment during the interview?

Nobody can match the spirit of #service and dedication to supporting our great Nation in a time of need like our #Military members and #Veterans. As of Friday, more than 14,000 U.S. Army veterans in specialized medical fields had responded to a call from the Army about returning to support #COVID19 response efforts. #KnowYourMil

Today's #militaryrecruitingtipthursday discusses the number of military members transitioning out each year and questions you should ask the military base transition centers about the specific volume they expect to transition out of their location.

Asking for that data will help you structure your sourcing strategy to focus on military installations that will give you more "bang for your buck" in terms of finding the types of candidates you are seeking at the experience level you need.

Simply choosing military bases nearest to your work locations may not be the best strategy if those military bases do not have a significant number of transitioning members with the skill sets you seek.

Have questions on this tip or want to share your experience with researching various military bases? Drop a comment below. Follow the hashtag to see previous tips, including the explanation of military relocation tip I mention in the video.

Companies that Recruit Veterans Often Fail to Hire Them, Data Shows

There is a big difference between hiring veterans and bringing them in at the correct level. Job dissatisfaction and under utilization are two contributing factors to high turnover amongst veterans in their first job after the military.

The buzz companies make around hiring veterans often doesn't result in actual jobs, according to a study by LinkedIn.

Leadership and Service: Celebrating Trailblazing Military Women

The Value Of a Veteran is helping to promote an event celebrating women veterans happening on Thursday Oct 24th (6:00 – 8:30 pm) at the Newseum in Washington, DC.

The event is sponsored by Verizon, and there will be fantastic views of the capitol and the downtown area from the 8th floor of the museum, complimentary refreshments, a speaker panel and networking with other District/Maryland/Virginia-based corporations and the local veteran community.

We hope you will consider attending – our founder, Lisa Rosser, will be there and she’d love to connect with you in person. Please also share this info with other veterans and military supporters in your organization and in your network. Prior military service is not a requirement to attend this event.

While the event celebrates women veterans, we’d love to see our brothers-in-arms attending and supporting. If attending as a group from your organization, please consider wearing clothing, pins or lanyards that identify your organization so we can clearly see you out in force.
