Crossroads Jobs

Crossroads Jobs Connecting Capable Applicants with Marketplace Jobs
Crossroads Jobs is a free employment service located in Loudoun County, Virginia. We connect capable applicants with marketplace jobs and are modeled on the highly successful job placement service, Jubilee Jobs, located in Washington, D.C.

Job seekers attend an orientation and a series of workshops at Crossroads Jobs. They are interviewed by a Job counselor, references are verified and they are then sent on appropriate and prearranged interviews and/or application screenings.

Mission: Crossroads Jobs, Inc. provides employment services to unemployed and underemployed individuals who are not served by conventional employment agencies and government job banks. Individuals who complete the program are matched with appropriate job openings in the community. Crossroads Jobs also contacts prospective employers for real and available job openings, explaining the advantages which would be afforded them by interviewing individuals who are not routinely hired through the current employment processes of online applications assessment tests.

Music saved my life as a kid. Fleeing a terminally destructive household, I found church and church music. I learned how to sing and play the piano. More important, I learned how music could fundamentally transform a human being. From that time forward, music has been my focus, my why, the core of everything I do. I knew I had a pull to use music purposefully. And, I knew my responsibility was to use music to make a dent in this confusing world. So, I founded the nonprofit organization, A Place To Be, in 2010. At A Place To Be, we use music therapy (and other expressive arts therapies) to help hundreds of people face, navigate, and overcome life’s challenges and disabilities, be they physical, emotional, or cognitive. Anyone— whether they are 3 years old or 90 years old—who is looking for a way forward is welcome to join us. This is all possible because we started right here locally, where people clearly understand what we are trying to accomplish. There are so many people in the county who are trying every day to do what’s right for society and the world. Won’t you join us and help us End the Need in Loudoun?

I lived and worked on a local farm for 18 years before I moved into town. At first, I worked at the old Esso station in Middleburg. But then my career took a distinct turn when I joined the local police force. I served 4 years in Middleburg and 2 in Leesburg, before becoming a deputy sheriff for Loudoun County. I retired from that job after 23 years. I loved it; helping people always makes me feel good. That’s why, at 84, I volunteer for our local food bank. I am committed to continuing my lifetime of service. Every Thursday, I drive the 30 miles to Winchester to pick up 800 to 2,000 pounds of food that the community has donated and bring it back so it can be distributed to those who need it most—yes, right here in Middleburg. Not everyone who lives here is rich. Loading and unloading all that food is hard work, but I get a lot of enjoyment when I see all the families we feed. And, I love the fact that, in this day and age, young people are getting involved in their communities. My daughter works with small children, and my younger son was a member of the local fire department before it folded. It’s so important that we teach the next generation to give back. I think the need in the area has changed dramatically since I was growing up on the farm, and it’s critical that people do all they can to help all the organizations that are assisting those who have day‐to‐day struggles. If we all pitch in—and help the next generation see the value of giving back—we can End the Need in Loudoun.

Three years ago, I regained my sobriety. With the help of my sister and brother-in-law, I moved to Loudoun County. It was extremely painful to move away from my life and friends in New York. Thanks to my family, I now live in a nice, fully furnished apartment. With the help of friends, family, the local food pantry, and a nonprofit health center, I am rebuilding my life and my spirit. The center is both convenient and helpful. It is so close that I can walk to my doctor’s and dentist’s appointments.

I am very happy now, but that’s a weird feeling for me. I am proud that I made it through the difficult times. My home is safe and comfortable. My sister and I have reconnected, and I am making new friends. It’s a whole new chapter of my life, and I am so grateful. My family and these nonprofits have helped to End the Need

Good news!

I am pleased to announce that the Loudoun County Department of Family Services (DFS) has opened a new location in Sterling! I am glad to see DFS open an office in Sterling. This has been in the works for a while and is a recognition of the unique needs of our community. By having easy access to a local office, Sterling residents will be better able to utilize the panoply of vital services DFS provides. The Eastern Family Services Center is located at 21641 Ridgetop Circle, Suite 101 (first floor). Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Staff from several DFS programs are available to meet customer needs at the Sterling location. These programs include Public Benefits (SNAP/Food Stamps, Medicaid/Health Insurance, Fuel Assistance, etc.), Child Protective Services, Older Adult Services, Community Support Services, and Information and Referral. DFS also continues to serve customers at its original location at 102 Heritage Way, NE in Leesburg.

More information about DFS programs and services is available at www.loudoun.gov/dfs.

Please feel free to drop in, call the Eastern Family Services Center at (703) 777-0555, or email [email protected].

General information

Looking for a job can be an overwhelming and discouraging experience, particularly if your work history has gaps, your living situation is precarious or if you are changing career directions. Often the most important step in finding and securing a job is putting together a plan and having someone there to help you see it through. Crossroads offers that support but goes beyond that by contacting local businesses for job openings in order to connect our applicants directly to employers for current and appropriate employment possibilities. We get to know our applicants strengths and abilities and, at the same time, cultivate ongoing relationships with businesses in the area, saving time, energy and money for both applicants and employers. It is important to note that we are a free service for both applicants and employers.
