Amazing! This winter Janelia Research Campus ran a #fundraising initiative – guess the number of candies in the jar. The employee who won got to keep the candy and a #mystery prize and choose a local charity to donate the proceeds PLUS a monetary match from Janelia. Congratulations Saul (pictured center, with other Janelia and ECHO employees) for guessing the number of candies, and THANK YOU for choosing ECHO to receive the donation! This validates the hard work our participants and staff put in daily, not to mention their positive impact on places in our #community where we work. Thank you as well to Sarah and Alison of Janelia for organizing and running the #fundraiser! We’re so excited that ECHO is so well-known and loved to have been chosen; the donation will go right back into supporting adults with #disabilities.
Through March 31st ECHO is running shuttles around Loudoun County, Virginia to drop off people at warm shelter. ECHO Transportation provides professional, efficient and on-time quality services to expand our reach beyond the core ECHO mission to empower #PWD to achieve their optimal level of personal, social and economic success. The Loudoun County Cold Weather Shelter is open for adults in the community who are experiencing a housing crisis resulting in homelessness. Loudoun County Government will provide free transportation to the shelter with shuttle buses departing nightly. “We are excited we can utilize our fleet to help Loudoun County and the greater community by providing transportation services to those in-need”, commented ECHO Director of Transportation Kinta Carter. This initiative is part of ECHO Ventures, ECHO’s for-profit company to help fund our mission. This is an exciting part of ECHO’s expansion into creating commercial ventures to help fund our growth and programs because we are expanding our mission into the community; this serves the greater good, and; this provides additional opportunities to utilize our fleet of 38 buses and vans outside of normal business. “ECHO is proud to contribute to community in many ways – whether through day support, training or employment for people with disabilities or through transportation for homeless individuals. We are excited to contract with Loudoun County to further serve our community, and our mission”, said ECHO CEO Paul Donohue, Jr. More information about services available to those experiencing homelessness in Loudoun County may be found at loudoun.gov/CoC or by calling 703-777-0420.

Congratulations to our Academy Fall Session Participants! On December 17, 2019, we were thrilled to deliver certificates to 17 participants in the LIFE Program who successfully completed sessions in the ECHO Academy. Pictured are 5 participants who were excited to have earned certificates for Work Readiness I, a vocational skill-building class which covered the importance of attendance, punctuality, concentration, and a variety of other topics that will help them be successful when employed. The session culminated in a visit to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office where the participants put in practice the skills they learned. Students who successfully completed this session are now eligible to register for Work Readiness II. Also during the fall session, 11 participants successfully completed a curriculum on Basic Hygiene. This class also met twice weekly to learn about and practice skills such as handwashing, body washing, tooth brushing, first aid, privacy, and manners. We recently heard from a family member who stated the class was having a positive impact on a participant’s involvement in brushing his teeth at home. We are pleased to be able to continuously offer structured training for our participants. Our next Academy sessions will start in January, and we will again be offering classes on various topics. The Academy uses curriculum-based training in over 200 focus areas—including life skills, vocational development, computer technology, and social skills—as well as personalized training sessions designed by the ECHO staff. For further information, please contact Jacob Brown at (571) 707-8253 or [email protected].
